NYSNS Board of Directors 

President - Jeremy Shefner, MD is professor and Chair of Neurology at SUNY Upstate Medical University.  He received his undergraduate medical training at Northwestern University, and completed residency and fellowship training at the Harvard-Longwood Neurological Training Program. He is the founder and co-chair of the Northeast ALS Clinical Trials Consortium, and has held leadership positions in many multicenter ALS trials sponsored by NIH, the ALS Association, and industry. He has been Associate Editor of the Muscle and Nerve, is the neuromuscular section editor of UpToDate, and is on the editorial boards of Clinical Neurophysiology and the ALS Journal.

Dr. Gross

Treasurer – Elliott G. Gross, MD, FAAN is a solo general Neurologist in Rye Brook, MY. Founding President and current Treasurer of the NYSNS. Faculty member in Department of Neurology since 1968 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Former Committee member of AAN Practice and State Affairs. Member of the New York Cornell Columbia IPA and member of the Society of Clinical Neurologists. Married to Sheila Rae, two children and one grandchild.

 

Secretary - Lindsey Lee Lair, MD is the Medical Director of Neurology at Merck & Co., Inc. She is board certified in neurology. She completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology with a focus on Autonomic Nervous System disorders and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at New York Medical College/St. Vincent's Medical Center. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), American Autonomic Society, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Medical Association.  She joined the New York State Neurological Society in 2008 and currently serves as Secretary. She has been active in advocacy with the AAN through Neurology on the Hill and the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum as both a member and subsequently as an advisor.

 

Dr. Gruenthal

Michael Gruenthal, MD, PhD is the Bender Chairman of the Department of Neurology at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York and Director of the Neurosciences Institute at Albany Medical Center. He is an epileptologist. He received a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent three years as a research fellow at Duke University studying status epilepticus, followed by neurology residency and clinical fellowship training at the University of Louisville. He was Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Louisville prior to moving to Albany.

Dr. Haut

Sheryl Haut, MD is Director of the Adult Epilepsy Program and Director of Neurology Residency Training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She maintains an active adult epilepsy practice at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx New York. Her research interests include: the temporal distribution of seizures, with emphasis on seizure clustering; seizure prediction and pre-emption; and alternative therapies for epilepsy. Dr. Haut has a Masters in Clinical Research Methods, and completed a career development award from the NIH.

J. Kirk Roberts, MD is an Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and is board certified in Neurology and in Vascular Neurology. He is active in neurological education and training of residents and medical students and has a particular clinical interest in dizziness and vertigo.
